Trip down to Loop Head

I had another amazing day out today.

It all started in the morning when i was on my way to a match. A hen harrier appeared in a random field a few minutes from my house being mobbed by 2 hooded crows.

After the match i said id head down to loop head to search for some merlins and anything else that might be out and about and boy did it not dissapoint.

A kestrel and a sparrowhawk started my walk around the headland off well and then the star of the show came out of nowhere and flew about 4 metres above my head. A Merlin! Thankfully after circling above my head once or twice he flew low and landed on post and allowed me to get extremely close for some photos which im over the moon with. Im delighted my second ever merlin and my first good pictures of one.

2 more kestrels and a peregrine then finished off my time on the headland but before i left i found these 2 knot further down the coast which was a new species for me and now puts my irish bird list up to 115 different species.
